Ju Yu-Mi
Abstract
Objective: Developing sensory processing scale for adults, especially considering inherent temperament factors, is necessary to provide with qualitative contexts of the client in therapeutic intervention and consultation as well. This study was designed to test validation of newly developed Adult Sensory Processing Scale.

Methods: The developed Adult Sensory Processing Scale was distributed and total 278 data were collected. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted and convergent validity was tested with Temperament and Character Inventory(TCI). Finally, t-test and one-way ANOVA was additionally analysed to check whether this scale well reflects demographical distribution of data.

Results: As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, Sensation Sensitive and Sensation Insensitive were defined within Sensation Sensitivity category. Unstability/Avoidance, Habitually Sensory Seeking, Tactile/Proprioceptive Sensory Seeking, Visual/Auditory Sensory Seeking were defined within Behavioral Response category. Reliability was .70 for the whole scale, each factors in the scale ranged from .67 to .86. Factors drawn in Adult Sensory Processing Scale were well correlated with factors in TCI through convergent validity test.

Conclusion: The developed Adult Sensory Processing Scale is valid and highly correlated with factors in well-known TCI. This scale would provide with qualitative contexts of the client in clinic practice.
